This is a subset of the data acquired 4th March 1994 at the Strait of Sicily, during the MAST2 Project Contract: MAS2-CT920022 "Geophysical seafloor exploration with a towed array in shallow water" The publication "Geoacoustic Seafloor Exploration with a Towed Array in a Shallow Water Area of the Strait of Sicily", Andrea Caiti, Sergio Jesus, Age Kristensen, IEEE J. Oceanic Engineering, Vol. 21, No.4,pp. 355-366,1996 describes the experimental setup of this data set (see http://w3.ualg.pt/~sjesus) 1) Acoustic data The data was acquired from a 40 hydrophone towed array at sampling frequency of 750Hz. Each 5 minutes run was split into 5 mat files run108 files acdata/run108_1m.mat 1st min. /run108_2m.mat 2nd min. /run108_3m.mat 3rd min. /run108_4m.mat 4th min. /run108_5m.mat 5th min. run109, run110, run207, run208, run209 as the same file structure The variables in the acoustic data mat-files are: HourSt - hour of first sample in the file MinSt - minute of first sample in the file SecSt - second of first sample in the file fSamp - sampling frequency (750HZ) nChan - number of hydrophones (40) sig - signal matrix sig(i,:) signal from i-th hydrophone 2) Array shape data The array shapes estimates - one sample per second. The mat files are in the directory pos. Each acoustic data file (see before) has a correspondent array shape file. The variables in the array shape mat-files are: hms - time stamp of the first sample in the file h(1) hour; h(2) minute; h(3) second pX - x-axe array shape estimates pX(i,j) x estimate of the j-th hydrophone (j-1) seconds from the start. pY - y-axe array shape estimates pY(i,j) y estimate of the j-th hydrophone (j-1) seconds from the start. pZ - z-axe array shape estimates pX(i,j) z estimate of the j-th hydrophone (j-1) seconds from the start. 3) Navigation data A plot with the ship track during the experiment and a plot with the water depth along the track are included in the directory ims The ship track plot is genereted by the shiptr2.m m-file using the shiptr2.mat mat file. The water depth plot is genereted by the waterdp.m m-file using the waterdp.mat mat file 4) Sound speed profile A plot with the sound speed profile acquired at 8:27 am is included in the ssp directory. The sound speed profile is genereted by the ssp.m m-file using the ssp.mat mat file.
